ZombieWalk Columbus 2009 marked the return of the living dead – only these zombies came bearing gifts. In an unlikely gathering of corpses, community and canned goods, the event’s goal (dare we say ghoul) was to raise over a half ton of food for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, an organization that provides more than 43,000 meals each day to people in central and eastern Ohio.
According to their myspace page, ZombieWalk Columbus “is a grassroots organization that aims to generate awareness through annual public performances and street theatrics of bone chilling proportions.” Horror enthusiasts were invited to resurrect their Halloween spirit to take part in the third annual event, held this past Saturday, at Goodale Park.
Veteran zombies and those newly converted lurched and staggered throughout the Short North to complete the two mile walk. Most arrived at Goodale Park, not much worse for the wear, relatively speaking.
Hats off, or should we say heads off, to the group for their bizarre yet honorable efforts in helping to feed those in real need.
